On retired life and other things

Having said farewell to sympathizers and well wishers,  I knocked on gate way to retired life in November last year.  The change was welcome since I no longer had to persistently invent some funny responses to questions about what I intended to do post retirement. The  part time assignments periodically offered now, left ample time for pursuing neglected areas of interest like dabbling in stock market, sorting and indexing my collection of photographs and off course blog writing which I hope to resume in coming days.
Breaking of dawn

Closing years of service run on a peculiar pattern. While people around us keep complimenting on younger looks they also appear to be mentally calculating how many years of service were still left with you. Some of them who are more inquisitive even come up with queries like "Abhi to char paanch saal baki hai na?" The prospective retiree has no option except to sheepishly agree to compliment on younger looks and mumble something for other queries. On understanding that you were not having any full time job on hand the well wishers have pearls of wisdom to offer on ways to remain "active" after retirement.Thankfully that phase is over in last months and one can look forward to a stable pattern of life.

The new phase marked by giving up the secure surroundings of Sarkari accommodation and moving  in Society flat is the like being reborn in a  a new avtar. The benefit of social hierarchy which is taken for granted in Govt service is no longer there. For most of the neighborhood one is transformed to "Uncle Ji". But this stage also offers the opportunity to view life as a level playing field.Previous management techniques have to be fine tuned to the new environs since the disciplinary tools are severely limited . One often comes face to face with corrupt ways of Govt. Servants or a Policeman with only moral authority to tackle them.

Living in Society flat offers opportunity to have an insight into lives of so many families, their struggle for survival in a big city and also the self centered approach of  us human beings when it comes to areas of common interest. Being in open area like Dwarka there is considerable proximity to nature . There is a very wide choice of walking tracks over various parks and the high rise apartment offers considerable  cause for happiness to the photographer in me, sometimes shooting a full moon and some times taking snaps of a flight taking off. The writer within now has ample stimulant to rise from slumber and leave creative footprints on sands of time.
